Performance Bio
Brett Lamel is trombonist and music educator, currently rooted in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex. Along with performing regularly in the DFW scene as a jazz musician and band leader, Brett has worked with artists across all genres, including pop artists (Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons, Jennifer Hudson, WRLDFMS Tony Williams), salsa singers (Willie Gonzalez, Miles Peña), local classical ensembles (Imperial Brass, Mckinney Philharmonic Orchestra, various church services), tribute acts (Emerald City Bands), brass bands (BDEntertainment, MLB All Star Week), and more.
In 2021 and 2022, he served as the touring trombonist for Mexican pop star Marisela, traveling across the USA, Mexico, and Central America, performing in large venues for sold out crowds.
Education Bio
As an educator, Brett serves as a trombone lessons instructor for Coppell ISD and Frisco ISD’s middle schools and high schools. Brett’s students have found success in a highly competitive region of the country, earning top spots in their respective All Region and All State Bands, and earning top prizes in district/state wide solo contests.
Brett’s students have also been selected to perform in extra curricular premiere ensembles such as Greater Dallas Youth Orchestra, Greater North Texas Youth Orchestra, Dallas Asian American Youth Orchestra, and have participated in various summer programs and solo contests. Along with private lessons, Brett also provides masterclasses for all levels on topics including trombone fundamentals, section playing, audition preparation, jazz improvisation, and more.
Educational Background
Brett received his bachelor's degree in music education from University of Delaware, and his master’s degree in jazz performance from University of North Texas. At UNT, he served as a teaching fellow, directing the Seven O'clock Lab Band, and teaching freshman level jazz trombone fundamentals. He also performed in the award winning One O’Clock Lab Band. His playing can be heard on their 2018 release Rhythm Of The Road, as a featured soloist on Alan Baylock’s composition “Without A Doubt.”
